This is a rather interesting and unusual design which features irregular-shaped marble tiled on the perimeter around the tub complemented by wood for the rest of the floor. It’s a way of delineating the tub area in the case of an open space bathroom.

A parent who can get their own things accomplished (e.g., making dinner, cleaning, working, etc.) while still keeping an eye on their children is in a better situation, safety- and peace of mind-wise.

Imagine waking up, climbing out of bed, and stepping not onto ice blocks that are your morning floorboards but instead onto a comfortably warm floor. Sounds nice, doesn’t it, especially at the approach of cooler fall, and then downright icy winter, weather. The way to achieve this toasty method of home heating is through underfloor heating. If it sounds complicated and intimidating, read on – you might be surprised to learn that it’s not that far out of reach for even the most traditional minds.

Underfloor heating does just that. Because it’s not trying (and failing) to heat the entire airspace of a room like a conventional heating system, cycling through a hot-air/no-air/hot-air cycle to maintain a tiny temperature range, underfloor heating is a much more efficient way to heat the house…and a great way to decrease energy bills.

As mentioned before, marble is a material that stains and etches very easily and this makes it a poor choice for spaces such as the kids’ bathroom or the kitchen. The living room is a problematic case as well. In here, a marble floor can be easily damaged by a lot of things so make sure you take everything into consideration before making a final decision.

Without a bunch of interior walls blocking the natural light from the windows, the natural light in an open floor plan’s great room far exceeds that of a closed floor plan. Not only the light, but the views through the windows themselves are increased and enhanced. This permeation of light plays an important role in maintaining a spacious, airy feel, regardless of the actual size of the open floor layout.
